Poetry, Pages and Scribes at Southfield Public Library
The first time Tom Budday set foot onstage to compete in a poetry slam as a young poet, he did so alongside some of the top ranked poets in the nation at the legendary birthplace of slam, the Green Mill Jazz Club in Chicago. And he won. He has been a vital member of the Detroit poetry slam scene ever since, coaching a National Poetry Slam team, competing and volunteering nationally and regionally, and touring the Midwest with his distinct blend of high octane performance, knife’s edge imagery, and gritty compassion. Tom tirelessly mentors young poets, running youth slams and workshops in conjunction with metro Detroit high schools and public libraries. When not at work on the follow-up to his debut chapbook, Blood, Bone and the Little Birds, or pursuing his education degree, Tom can typically be found on a dance floor, in an exotic pet store, or eating pie.
