As an author, I just WINCE when I read stats like that. I wonder if we are doing enough to encourage kids, especially boys, to read. It’s getting harder and harder to compete with all the gadgetry and 150 TV channels, etc. People have more time, I think, for leisure but they’re wasting it on mindless activities and virtual adventures. Hard copy seems too passive and, God help us, not interactive enough. Where are the buttons and bells? How do I know when I’ve “wrapped” it?

well that is just a sad sad statistic… im usually good for about 2 or 3 books a month… i set out last year to read all of James Patterson, in between i would read a few other authors to break it up… i have 4 more of jp’s novels and i am caught up with him… for me that is a great sense of accomplishment…
im currently, and have been for a month reading middlesex by jeffrey eugenides… this is the slowest i have ever read a book.. its been like pulling teeth to get through it for some reason… i keep going at it though, hopefully i will finish it up this week, i need something new…
any suggestions?
